    Geography and Climate

    Hungary is located in Central Europe and borders Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Austria. Hungary is a member of NATO and the European Union. The official currency of the country is the Hungarian forint.

    Hungary has a continental climate. The summers are hot, the winters are mild, and the springs and autumns are warm and long. The hottest month of the year is July, with an average temperature of around +22°C. The coldest month is January, with an average temperature of around -1°C. The number of sunny days ranges from 70 to 190 per year.

    The terrain in Hungary is predominantly flat. The Great Hungarian Plain occupies most of the country. In the west of Hungary are the foothills of the Alps – the Alps. In the north of the country are the Northern Hungarian Mountains, and in the south are the Mecsek Mountains.

    Economy and Infrastructure

    Hungary has a rapidly developing industrial-agrarian economy. Hungary actively cooperates with the countries of the European Union, sending about 80% of its exports to them. The agricultural sector in Hungary is developed in the area of gardening and viticulture. A significant contribution to the country’s economy is made by the developed machinery sector, as well as the production of machine tools, telecommunications equipment, and measuring instruments. The country has established the production of the pharmaceutical, chemical, metallurgical, textile, and food industries. Hungary mines brown coal, bauxite, gas, oil, copper, iron, manganese ores, thermal and mineral waters.

    Hungary has excellent railway connections. It is very convenient to travel by train in the country. Railways connect the largest cities of the country: Budapest, Tihany, Debrecen, Miskolc, Szentendre, Szeged, Pécs, and others.

    The length of Hungary’s highways is about 30,000 kilometers. The coverage is good, it is convenient and easy to travel by car in Hungary.

    The country also has a well-developed public transport system. Trolleybuses, trams, buses, and the Budapest metro start running around 5:30 in the morning and end their operation around 11:00 in the evening. There are five international airports in Hungary. The largest airports are: Budapest Airport, Debrecen Airport, and Hévíz Airport.

Matyó is a flat embroidery with floral motifs that originated in the 19th century. The tradition of weaving Halas lace is also alive. An interesting custom characteristic of Hungary is falconry. This tradition is also included in the list of intangible heritage of UNESCO. It is also interesting for visitors to see the procession of mummers in the city of Mohács. The procession symbolizes the farewell to winter and the arrival of spring. Hungarians love and protect their culture, and you can get acquainted with it in the numerous ethnographic museums of the country, as well as during national holidays and celebrations.

    Cultural Heritage

    Budapest is known as the “Paris of the Danube,” and it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The Hungarian Parliament Building is the city’s calling card. The architecture of the parliament blends Gothic Revival and Parisian Beaux-Arts styles, resulting in a unique building that is similar in grandeur to the famous Westminster Palace. In addition to the parliament, Budapest attracts visitors with the Buda Castle, the Chain Bridge, the Citadel, the Vajdahunyad Castle, the Matthias Church, and, of course, the famous Szechenyi Baths, where you can spend a whole day relaxing in the healing waters of local thermal springs.

    Pannonhalma Abbey, located in the town of Pannonhalma, is the oldest monastery in Hungary and the second largest Catholic abbey in the world. The Hortobágy National Park is renowned for its unspoiled nature and vastness. It is interesting to learn about the cities of Sopron and Győr. Sopron has a two-thousand-year history and was founded by the ancient Romans. The city of Győr is known for its beautifully preserved medieval architecture. Hungary is also famous for its Tokaji wines. The Tokaj wine region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Education in Hungary

    Education in Hungary meets European standards. Hungarian universities offer international students programs in English. The cost of tuition ranges from four to seven thousand euros per year. There is also the possibility of studying in Hungarian, but due to the complexity and rarity of the local language, foreign students most often prefer English-language programs.

    You can enter a Hungarian university after 11th grade. The most prestigious universities in the country are: Semmelweis University of Medicine, University of Pécs, University of Debrecen (founded in 1538), University of Budapest (Eötvös Loránd University), Central European University of Budapest.
